There's still extra amount of work to release one project on two servers due to having to adapt the project for it's 2nd target server.
I think after awhile it will become apparent that the two will need to be merged assuming the iPhone version dwarfs the PC/FB version in playercount.

the pc version really just needs to be scrapped.
archaic and inaccessible systems, too large of a barrier to entry for newer players to be competitive in any timely fashion, and a few other things.
going iOS with a completely new plan is a step in the right direction, but, like you said, maintaining PC GK will just be a ball and chain with no real benefit.
