I taught myself how to take out the engine and transmission out of my first car at 15 just because I was bored. But yeah at the dealer I work for I see it all the time the bottom of the car is all messed up because the customer had no clue how to jack the car and place it on stands even when the most clear instructions are written in the owners manual with colored pictures.
I learned how to replace a tire just this summer.  Good thing I was with someone who could or else I would've been 12 mi from any sort of civilization alone deep in Colorado wilderness shortly before nightfall. So yea, motor skills are a pretty good thing to have.

Get AAA. It's only like 50 bucks per year and their roadside assistance is pretty good. I got a flat once and had to use it because I don't carry my spare tire (because racecar) and they towed my car home no charge nothing.
