The purpose of having gralats shown in your status can be used for the 'showing off' idea. Having a gold bar lying around isn't exactly what I call decoration. A lot of gold bars is a waste of space, money and wouldn't look appealing.
No. I see where you're going with this... but no. It wouldn't work just for decoration.

How so? Just because you wouldn't use it doesn't mean others wouldn't.

Why would it give you 900 gralats, and not 500?

Because it's more of an exchange item and not ment to make you lose a lot of
money but just place it for a little fee of some sort.
