Sorry, cant help myself but to get into these debates. They are so fun
Idiotic? Sorry sir, but not believing in a religion is far from it. I agree with you about atheism being idiotic because there is no way for you to discount something being outside of the realm of science, but that's beyond the subject. I'm more of an agnostic, really. I think the true idiotic thing is to believe something, even though you have no idea if it is true or not, just to make yourself feel better. I could never be happy doing that. To me, that's just lying to myself. I dont see in any way why a religion will be true anyways, although thats just me. I see all religions (except Buddhism, that's more of a philosophy) on the same level as doctor seus books, and believing them to be real in my eyes, is the same as believing the cat in the hat will walk up to your door someday and hand deliver you green eggs and spam.
I was brought up as a hardcore christian for the first 14 years of my life. I was completely surrounded by everything christian, from family, to friends, to school, to church, and I was very passionate about it. Then I deconverted in high school when I was finally not completely brainwashed by constant religious bashing and I am about as against religion as you can get now

Everything in life is based on faith includeing athiesm, the only difference between that and christianity is that christianity admits it is faith, athiest call it math or science. So I would much rather believe sonething that is honest than something that isn't.
That is a personal problem, do not blame others for why you deconverted. There are extremist in anything.
Lastly Pimpsy, I suggest just researching and getting info of religions. Don't count any out. Just read and sincerely look for answers. The rest is up to you.
