Calling someone a machine is almost never an insult. Especially seeing as how machines preform a lot of functions better than humans now.
"Man, that point guard is a scoring MACHINE!!"
"Yeah he's really the star player of the team!"
"That chess player is a genius! He has to be a machine (robot works better but same thing)."
