Exactly what Rufus said. It'll still take a lot of bandwidth, but it'd be coming out of your internet connection. 1) to host a server for a decent amount of players is usually out the capabilities of the average home connection. 2) You'd need a decent dedicated computer to host the server, hosting it on a machine that is actively used will drain away from the very cpu intensive server. 3) Most ISPs don't like people hosting servers very much. They might bottleneck your connection.
