Depends on the amount of attacks. You never know. It can last for weeks, days, hours, or maybe even minutes.

This just changes the private LAN IP. Your IP over the internet will still be the same.
Your best bet will be contacting your ISP and request an IP change. In most circumstances (IF your ISP uses dynamic ip) you can turn off your modem for 24 hours and your IP will change.
