If that's the case...then what's the difference between an AMD CPU and an APU?

An APU is essentially AMDs name for a CPU that also has onboard graphics.
The FX 6350 would be called a CPU
The A-10 7850K would be considered an APU
Intel has integrated graphics, but they don't call them APUs.
