If you are talking about weight lifting, no. You could go to any sports store, buy a barbell and a few plates, a bench and some dumbells and be just fine. If you are talking about bodyweight/calisthenics, definitely no. If there is a nearby park you could go there and use monkey bars or whatever **** they have there to do most of your exercises. Only thing that is necessary for results is a healthy diet.

When I started calisthenics I started at my local park (scaring little kids in the progress of my old shirtless body, hue hue.) You can even see a clip in my video of me doing my first muscle ups at my local park.
