Most people talk like social anxiety (or any anxiety for that matter) is easy to overcome. Those people usually either don't have social anxiety that bad or at all.
I've had anxiety since as long as I can remember and everyone always told me to basically get over it and do things that my anxiety prohibits me from doing. It's not as easy as "making small talk" or "going out more" because that's exactly what social anxiety is, so why say it like it's that easy?
I get anxious when I'm around people that are strangers, friends, or family. If I have to talk to them I draw a blank. Phone calls are even worse. It's effected me my whole life and 21 years later it hasn't gotten much better. There aren't many people I feel comfortable being around even now. It's not an easy thing to overcome and people should stop acting like it is, especially if they've never experienced it.
