The only punishment I have on record is having status reset for having words like "poop" (obviously the "bad word" which isn't censored in its place). I applied for staff 2 months ago and I have 6 years of experience with the game, plus more knowledge on recent trends such as very slight speeding as well as VPN yet I was never contacted. The rest of the application I can almost guarantee had more reasons to hire me than 50% of the current GP team combined. Yet no contact. As I said in another thread, this actually tops affirmative action as far as bs ways to hire someone.
For those wanting to try to change things here seem to be the steps.
1. Get in Zanza or some other tower guild with staff on it
2. Make them your best friend forever and praise them
3. With adding cute little :> faces, ask if they think you could become an admin if you applied.
4. Nice work Zanzanite, your fully qualified self has passed the test.

Punishments have almost nothing to do with an application. All your record usually does (from my experience) is eliminate people with excessive records so you know they aren't worth the time & shouldn't be hired. The application is key. I'm probably the worst person to read applications because I judge everything. How they portray themselves, spelling, grammar, proper English, and more, are all important things that go into an application. I haven't seen classic's application recent,y but I believe they steered more toward personal/experience questions like Era has, rather than the WWYD questions. That just makes the application all-the-more complex, as it should be. Recommendations definitely help someone get hired. I've only recommended one person to get hired & he was my friend, of course, but I have many friends who I would never recommend. It's not (or at least, shouldn't be... however I can't speak for other servers) about friendship, but if you aren't friends with someone, then you probably either don't know them well enough to recommend them, or you dislike them. Basically, you can't get hired just by not getting banned.
