That point is invalid because most people don't spar actively, so that would just benefit the sparer minority.
Plus, I still think that guild spar is better then tag team. Tag team is cool and all, but I think it would quickly fade into less and less use because you and your partner would have to be online together. I would much rather have staff focus on things that casual players can do, something akin to looting. While it's fun and cool for combat based players to get updates, we already got the new leaderboard this year.
Also don't see any changes to the style/substance on the player card.

Your first argument is invalid because you're ignoring whether or not more people would spar if this was implemented. Your second argument of requiring sparring partners to be online is valid, but the problem could probably be avoided with an appropriate queuing system.
