Races aren't so great, or at least haven't been for Classic historically. One significant issue is that they create a stereotype for the look of your player, which leaves limited options for many races. I personally played as a Lunaris when races existed. They were slowwww. They were from the moon... and they were slowwww.
My interpretation of what Tyhm was talking about in that last post was the idea bringing in some of the gameplay dynamics that came along with races without some of the negative side effects actually implementing races brought to Classic (again, races have been implemented on Classic before, c. 2002).
Imagine each guild tower having a specific set of people, with a specific type of primary weapon associated with the tower affiliation (swords and a set of substitutes for swords). That's my interpretation.
