Islam is regressive, bad, probably even evil. It doesn't mean that everyone who identifies as a Muslim are those things, especially if they're under the age of 30. I have a lot of Muslim friends, especially online, and many are very nice and as "normal" as you could imagine. They'll pray and do the small things that their religion insists of them, but it's obvious living in a time where we have access to things like the internet and science that some parts of Islam aren't really their cup of tea.
However, the West must stop coddling Islam. It is not just Islamic extremists. Islam itself allows abuse against religion, homosexuals, non-believers, etc.

I think that any religion can be alright, in moderation. But I think my issues with religion stem from over-saturation. If you're a rational person, none of this will be a problem for you. The issues are those who take religion and put it over logic and rational thought.
If asked, I say I am a Christian. But, as I've aged, I've started to slowly change my views on the beliefs I grew up with. In the end, if Christians are anti-homosexual, then i am not a Christian.
I believe in some Christian beliefs, like Heaven and a creator, but I don't let the religion cloud my judgement. Like how a lot of Muslims treat Islam. They don't let themselves be deceived into doing things they think are wrong. As you said, they are as normal as anyone else.
The issues are those in
all religions who don't question their actions. I don't care if it's Christianity, Islam, Scientology, whatever. They all could be dangerous and/or cause harm.
