Set PM's to friends only if you're that worried about what people will think about your stats. Go to Era, Zone, or Ol'West if you wish to fully use that feature.

People still want to hit milestones. Stats are there to determine how much you have played. It does make the majority judge you based on them.
What would be the point without stats though? Hat and Furniture collecting?
