I don't know why anyone donates any money to streamers. I started watching some recently every now and then, and I don't even subscribe because they charge you for that.

There's a few streamers I watch that I have donated to. Nothing ridiculous like $500. I do it because I want them to have the means to continue producing content. Its also just the proper thing to do if you've been watching someone's videos every week for a year.
