Problem is there's usually only one, and they can often be targeted first if someone wants to cause mass casualty. They're also sometimes not the best people for protecting kids... I agree with arming teachers, but they would need a lot of checks and protections. Teachers would have to work full-time, no substitutes could have guns. They would need to go through required gun safety and usage training, plus go through a yearly psych evaluation. Plus guns would need to be locked away at all times in a secure drawer or cabinet, and teachers could not be forced to do it, only if they choose to. Plus the obvious background check at the beginning.
