No, you shouldn't respect people "because they believe they are a different gender to what they are biologically", you should respect people because there's something called human decency (and also hello welcome to 2016).

If someone believing they feel comfortable identifying as a different sex warrants you to not respect them as people, well then that's some of the most ******ed (and ignorant) stuff that's been posted in a while.
