False, the 'Other' section would be guilds that aim to do both. but overtime its obvious the most successful guilds stress ONE field. US, only known for spar. Alumni, only known for spar, Chain of memories, only known for tower, Guild B only known for PK. Your talking about the minority, most guilds stick to doing one thing. If a guild wants to be known for doing two things he would go under the "other" category that I made...
I already explained that.
Even if the staff do find a way to merge things, this is not useless at all its the opposite. right now if I want to find a guild OR if i want to recruit people i have to physically find people.
With this, the most popular 50 guilds for the day/week/season can advertise their guild. its a better way of finding the type of ACTIVE guild you are looking for, and the most clicked on guilds are most likely also the most popular. The idea is far from useless. Clash of clans has something like this
I would say 90% of the guilds on classic are social guilds, guilds for people who sit around and talk all day and do nothing. Popularity of social guilds would be the most active ones obviously.
This has nothing to do with which one is better, it has to do with finding an active guild that suites you, OR advertising your guild and being able to make a better guild.

Still would be useless as there wouldn't really be types of guilds , if the systems do indeed merge I'm pretty sure guilds will aim at doing everything that will get them points. I think this will be majority of successful guilds. And in pretty sure they will have some sort of leaderboard to define the successful ones
There's no way to define popularity , popularity is mostly opinion based and can be extremely bias at times. Popularity usually comes from people opinions and thoughts on certain guilds. I think defining popular social guilds and arrange them in order of 50 ( which would also always be shifting i presume ) will be too hard and pointless to do.
