The '3d' stuff on Dusty's channel seems pretty interesting.
Worth noting that all he's really seems to have done is changed the view transform from top down to angled.. It's still 2d, just an illusion of 3d. It's a start though. Cool stuff.

General approaches to resource loading/management, especially for games where memory is a concern (e.g. mobile/web games) are designed to intelligently load and unload resources as they're needed. Obvious example: only loading the images of players who are present in the same level as you or present within your view and unloading them when they leave the view/level. This can be applied to almost any not-always-critical resource.
Not sure how Graal does it or if they have any sort of proper resource management under the hood at all - never cared to look. But I'd be surprised if they don't have SOMETHING.
