slaughterhouses aren't "nature." the mass production of animal meat that it is today is not "nature." this isn't how it's "always been done" because the technology and means weren't there beforehand.

What does the same technology have to do with anything? They're still slaughtered, even in a less painful way than 500 years ago. This is how it's always been, and no it's not similar to cannibalism.
