This doesn't actually affect emotes. As much as I hate to say it cause I love emotes, I think the best option would be to disable them in the auction house.

This. Also I shouldn't have to clear chat to see when the auction starts. What if i'm talking to someone? I'd have to get them to resend messages often because I'd be clearing the chat every 2 seconds since people LOVE to block the sign.
