It's highly likely that ISPs will now just favour their partner sites which could be done so subtly it would be hard to notice (the same way some ISPs have slowed access to YouTube in the past) or they could just blatantly provide the best service to websites that pay up the most. True competition between ISPs can only be achieved with Net Neutrality, without it everyone's just playing favourites.

ISPs don't work that way. They're not battling for customers, customers just get fisted by whoever is most convenient for them. If I recall, Americans don't have much of a choice, they either use the one ISP in their area or they have no internet.

Here in Sweden I can choose between like 8 ISPs and they're pretty competitive...you know, for a socialist country and all.  

I could use at least 5 ISPs right now. So its not like the electric company where there is only one. I have plenty of choices.

Exactly, like, if some comcast CEO played graal and raged because he kept losing in spar, so he decided graal is stupid and made the entire server get really bad connection for comcast users.

I have comcast... I actually believed this for a second because the connection was so damn horrible at forst

That's true. Some parts of America that aren't very modernly connected to the world only have one real way of connecting. I live in a populated area so I have access to AT&T Uverse, Xfinity, Cox, Timewarner, Verizon, Charter. You won't know most of these companies, but I have those options available from small ISP's to multinational ones. It's not just me though, a lot of Americans have these as well.

You won't know most of these companies, but I have those options available from small ISP's to multinational ones. It's not just me though, a lot of Americans have these as well.

A lot of populated and modernly set up areas don't have choices. Around here it is either Verizon or Comcast, because Verizon owns the phone lines and Comcast owns the cable lines.

That would be nice except in many areas it's either the big ISP or sub par service (usually it's sub par with both actually).

The service you receive depends mostly on your specific location. A lot of neighborhoods have a cable line going through their street and is split to each house, which weakens the strength of their internet connection (if you use cable). So often your service may be slow if there are a lot of houses on the same cable line as you. Also it could be that you are paying for the least amount of bandwidth, the more you pay the faster it will be. I am not an expert, that that is my understanding of how it works.
