Ok, so here's the situation. My friend was banned a couple days ago, totally out of the blue, for 6+ months for "inappropriate solicitation". Now, I'll be the first to admit that often times I don't believe people who say they did nothing wrong, but I know this guy pretty well, and he has never done anything that would constitute any kind of discipline, let alone a ban of this length. It's also worth noting that he was afk (and had been for at least a couple hours) when he got banned.

Now, here's where things get even stranger. 2 other people that this friend of mine knows were also banned around the same time he was, for the same reason, and they too did absolutely nothing to deserve said ban. And earlier today, another friend of mine shows me that he was banned too (though it was for "inappropriate behaviour" and a much shorter ban). Here's a screen:

I know the forums aren't meant to be used to appeal bans. That's not what I'm doing (my friend already contacted toonslab and was told the ban would not be lifted). I'm wondering if it's possible an admin could be abusing their power (or perhaps even got hacked?) and I'm also curious if anyone on here was banned recently or knows someone who was banned recently for seemingly no reason. Because this just isn't making any sense to me.  

Bans aren't supposed to be discussed on the forums. Whether its in regards to appeal the ban or not. This should be messaged to an Administrator or sent to toonslab.

you hire an admin to ban good gst members, but seriously lots of bans lately.  

And in such a time frame that the GST will be over before this is fixed or even addressed, most likely...

I find this funny, many of people get banned right before the gst.
this happened to me back in very early 2014 for winter gst, I was in SLX mixed gst and got banned for help selling my friends acc. I had that sale status up for a month and was never banned until the gst registeration is up.  

i got banned at the day of registration of gst... for innapropriate behavior.. ugh.. -.-  

This is why I focused on ol'west until gst starts, don't want to get screwed over

Its obvious isn't it? Admins checked your friends and his friends logs for inappropriate solicitation, ie, drug dealing.
they could be just joking around but if it was bad enough for a ban, your friend deserved it.

This is by far the most true/false thing I have ever read in my life.  

Nothing unusual guys, just admins rigging the GST in advance for us. Not to worry.

No but seriously I have nothing to tell you other than: if he was preforming said act, he deserves said ban.
