I totally agree with you on this one Higbey. Except my situation is a little different. Take a gander at my Math Grade, C. Well I ace in math... Unfortunately my class goes at an extremely slow pace, where I get it first shot. So I am sitting around for the next 70 minutes of my class (Hurray block schedule) listening to a teacher say the same thing over and over attempting to drill it into the heads of kids that aren't even listening. We actually have spent a week on one lesson, and it wasn't even a hard one. So I am falling asleep bored out of my mind, giving the same things handed the same ****ing problems everyday. Now we get a sub and he puts us in groups and it is the same thing you are dealing with, except he has the nerve to tell me I am wrong and his answer is right... So I come to my teacher asking if I could get into a class that goes at a faster pace, she says sure understanding I understand the subject, unfortunately the district or school (I don't know nor care) says that my grade is too low and that I don't understand the subject. My teacher attempts to explain my low grade but they won't ****ing listen and just go off what my grade says. Not even bothering to at least let me test to get into a higher level class. So now I can stay in my standard math class surrounded by morons. Hurray for school systems

Basically what I am getting from higbeys posts is that grades are not indicative of the character of the actual person and how smart they are, as the vast majority of it is just busy work determined by teachers to see how dedicated you are to applying yourself since that quality translates well to the work force. I would love to have something like the vulcans have in regards to education (much more individual focused and relatable to your study habits instead of linked to generalized tests and subjects) but this isn't Star Trek, and if you can come up with a system that allows for that type of dynamic be my guest.

I can't share the exact results, but last semester I got four or so A's on my report card, and then the rest were B's. This semester, I haven't gotten below an A- for any assessments. My A+'s come from English and ICT, mostly. After my, if I may say so myself, assessment work in SOSE, I'm expecting an A+ in that. It seems extremely wrong for me to say that, but, looking around at the rest of my classes assessments, mine was kind of above them. I'm in my first year of Australian high school. I'm in what my school calls the Magna program, which is a class with a differentiated curriculum to 'cater for our higher learning needs.' Magna is in English, SOSE, Science, and Maths. I'm in it for English and SOSE, but will be in it for Science and Maths next year (or so I'm told). |

The kids with the lowest IQs in my school have the higest grades in our school. NO JOKE! The special ed teachers take them out of the classroom on every assignment and just confirm if they know stuff. The kids just go "Yeah" and SHE TELLS THEM THE ANSWERS!!!! Just to agree with Higbey, the system is broken.

It's funny how Egyptian public school English teachers can't differentiate between B and P and V and F. Sank Yu Ferry ferry ferry mush!

So just a question for everyone outside the US. Does your school require an English class.

A better question would actually be do any countries speaking a language other than English require an English class. And just curious but what language is spoken in Egypt?
