While I was looking through my Facebook news feed, I came across this interesting post. For those who can't see the picture in the post: After reading and thinking about it, I think that things should be that way. Everybody should be qualified for what they're doing, regardless of what that is, be it politics, any job, or even voting. You can't have any random idiot doing things that a qualified intelligent person should be doing. Discuss. |

Specifically with the united state's government, that was exactly the main issue with the Connecticut compromise. People wanted the right to choose their leader, but some thought the people could not be trusted to choose an intelligent leader. (That issue was exaggerated in Fahrenheit 451).... This is where the electoral college came from, its the best of both worlds. And with jobs, yes, that's where applications and colleges come from. Not sure where this is getting at? The systems in place already are the best systems for making sure people have representation and those representatives are experienced. Regardless of the opinions on the people who are already chosen, be it from a job, or the president.

No, they do this with schools and jobs and it's broken. Grades cannot determine intelligence or learning. If everything required tests, grades, levels, it would evolve into a class level government where the people with a lot of money to "earn" those credentials would be in charge.

It's referring mostly to politicians being unqualified to lead a country, but it also refers to that problem. If average people's votes for government officials were the only ones that counted, people would vote solely based on the beliefs of the politicians. Not on the practicality of their plans. Even that's a problem, as politicians are known liars. An electoral college is still a group of somewhat more educated people. It wouldn't make much of a difference either way.

*cough cough* Muhammad Morsy *cough cough*. Fun fact: The Islamic Brotherhood actually told the poor that they'll end up in hell if they don't vote for their candidate. |
