Not a fan of Skrillex. I do like Deadmau5 though. But definitely not my favorite.

Not really. I used to with Skrillex, when I first got into the genre. I didn't have an underground taste like I do now, and I searched the big names I knew on YouTube like Skrillex and Flux Pavilion. After listening to his songs I got bored of him, mostly because all his songs sound the same (same with Bare). He's making music to appeal the mass and to sell, I like the artists who make music because they enjoy doing it, and make what they want to hear. Never listened to Deadmau5 (well, Aural Psynapse I've heard). Don't want to. |

Skrillex, I don't listen to that junk, but in the case of Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5), I listen to his music. It's decent, but house isn't my favourite genre.

Do I like them as people? Sure, they're cool. Both influenced their genres a lot. deadmau5' mix of electro and progressive elements in his house music was well ahead of the rest. deadmau5 has a lot of solid and unique tracks that others can't reproduce, just depends on whether you're some ADD iOS generation idiot who won't listen to songs longer than 4 minutes. When Skrillex dropped his tunes in late 2009 and later in 2010 he was also well ahead of the game. deadmau5 still puts on great shows but his music seems a bit stagnant. Whenever Skrillex comes on live there's a ton of energy, so it's worth seeing him play live, but his music post 2010 is just awful. There are a few exceptions but he's really gone down a crappy path. Those saying they're "mainstream" are missing the point. Skrillex brought dubstep to the mainstream. That in itself is a huge compliment. Rather dubstep than the ****ty boybands of the 90's and horrid pop assholes like Britney Spears. Skrillex's style is now copied by everyone, so if anyone has sold out it's the dumb twats like Zomboy who blatantly copy his style. Post-Skrillex dubstep is now all over the place. Heard electro-house tunes lately? They're practically what Skrillex was doing two years ago. Skrillex went commercial with this tunes but the fact that he ended up influencing multiple genres more than makes up for it. If you want to blame anyone for ruining dubstep blame the fans who buy into the garbage that artists have been putting out lately. Most of it is so blatant and shameless that it's not even funny. Summery: Ya I like both, but I don't listen to them anymore. I do try to see them live when they're around, which isn't often. |
