I can tell you the basics of music composition and use of effects, but it's good to learn from experience. I've been thinking of making a tutorial on it. For programs, I would recommend FL Studio, since I use it. With any program, it's good to have a good idea of what certain effects do. There are a few essential effects, like limiting, compression, reverb, an delay. I could get into quite a lot of detail with the first two, so you google those. Reverb is essentially adding a natural echo to the music. Presets are usually based on different environments, like cathedrals, studios, rooms, etc. Delay is a sort of extra hit on notes of a song. For a better idea of what delay does, listen to the intro of F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X by Fall Of Troy. It's a good example of delay.
Some tips would be to not leave empty spots in your music like I did in White Reprise. Unless you're trying to achieve some kind of effect, it'll make the song sound boring. Always try to keep a song in key, since off-key notes sound weird. A lot of what I can say is basic musical knowledge.

I've got a pretty well understanding of distortion effects such as reverb and delay, coming off as a pianist and guitarist. Are there any things I should know about FL Studio that isn't commonly taught, or would I be better off with tutorials?

I think you'd be better off with tutorials, since I'm still learning and I still don't know what a few of the effects do. Something else that's extremely important as a musician: music isn't simply a bunch of noises arranged to sound nice. No, it tells a story. Every song has its own unique story behind it, and they tell that story through melodies and harmonies and such. Just telling you that.

It's been a while hasn't it?
I haven't posted any songs in a week since I've been working on one song and watching tutorials to further improve my music. This is a product of that leaning, ^-^
This song is called Astral Eternity. I named it that since I decided I would name my techno/trance/whatever songs Astral (something), so it's a series of songs. I'm glad you like it. ^-^ @Pixel: The kick, hi hats, and snare come with the program. The reverse crash and crash cymbals are from a Basshunter sound pack I downloaded. Everything else is from synthesizers that come with the program. I use FL studio by the way.
