Reece's Hat Making Attempt
Hello all. Giving it a go at the pixel art style. I currently do graphic design anyway and thought why not try pixel art because its a completely new style to me. Christmas is around the corner so I thought I would try and make a christmas themed hat. (Opened Present) ![]() Constructive criticism only please! Thank you. EDIT: Ive updated the picture and put a gold gralat in there for contrast. :3

Some art with minimal colors look nice. Some art with more complexity in colors can also look nice. Let's get back on topic. |

Rather then create a palette of different shades, I changed the opacity down to 5 for the shading. Guess I try too hard to be realistic. Fair point. The sprite is not mine so I shouldnt use it in my hat. Making my own gralat would cause people confusion and make the hat look slly tbh, atleast in my opinion. Any suggestions I could create to replace it with please? -------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Anyway, this is the finished version. Thanks for all the constructive criticism guys, please feel free to hate/potate/give me constructive criticism on this hat, I really want to improve, so thanks. And yes, I know the sides of the hat suck, took me a whole dayto figure out the angle and I still dont think its right.

Though it can be rarely proven, it can also support as evidence of theft. Take a picture with a camera, look up the most simplistic jpeg images on google, and find a massive color count. In my opinion, his method of "pixel" art involves an method of ruining the integrity of indivually placed pixels. Because it is highly unethical to place 112 shades of a color on a small present box shape, therefore he had to have done some kind of program feature (such as changing the opacity to 5) as he stated earlier. It would much rather be best to leave it without those types of alterations just so one can really go indepth and see the pixels you've individually placed. |

Im just gonna stick your quote in a spoiler because you wrote a lot.. Spoiler
Just to clear some things up what you said, because tbh you scared me a little using the word 'theft'. As mentioned in my first post, this is my first attempt at not just making a hat, but pixel art in general. Fair enough, I should have done some research before attempting this, I had no idea about colour ramps, being in control of every pixel, the importance of Hue shifting and Luminescence etc. I just saw pixel art as this new style of art. Secondly, just to clarify, none of you guys are probably not going to like hearing this, or just not care, but I used ArtStudio to create this. I prefer the flexibility and accessibility to my work and being able to zoom in and shade with my fingers rather then the simple click of a mouse, this is also part of the reason why there are so many colours. Lastly, as I stated before, im a graphics student, I have experience in design and art, ive done it before. When I shaded in my previous works, I changed the opacity because that is my personal preference. I never knew that shading in pixel art involves creating colour ramps and you have to keep on a hard edge, which is my bad, but now that I know anything I will post in the future wont have over 100 different shades anymore. |

Don't misunderstand what I've said. Just read carefully. I did not accuse you of theft. It's plain and obvious to see your pixel placements from Dylan's close up so I know its not a theft from anything. I merely stated the unorthodox method you used in making your pixel art. No harm in it except making it harder for actual stealers to recolor your stuff. |

It is a really nice hat for your first hat . Probably needs a little work on the shading though. Quite a few too many horizontal lines. Anyways, I like using Sprite Something & TinyPixels when I pixel on my iDevice rather than ArtStudio. I feel like you can't move freely on ArtStudio.
