Just a little background information for all the people snickering at the term "Soccer".
The term was originally widely used in England along with "football". But at the time soccer was a disorganized backstreet sport, sort of like kickball. When it eventually became an organised sport in the mid 1800's it took a while to gain some ground in the United States. When it did, Americans adopted the term "soccer" because the popular backstreet sport "gridiron football" was already popular in north america. It was and is still a legitimate term for the game if you look at the history. It all depends on your perspective, and I wish people didn't get all antsy about things like this.
