To those Pixel Artists curious as to how to create tiles, don't be too afraid. Tilesets are often made to seem like a scarier and bigger task than they actually are. A tile is just a 16x16 square used by level artists in the creation in their levels. Now don't get me wrong. The entire tileset isn't just 16 pixels by 16 pixels. There are many of these tiles on a tileset. I think I heard somewhere that there are 108 tile slots on a tileset. Not so sure. Anywho here are some additional tips for creating a tileset. Don't use too many colors in your tiles/tileset. Then RC File Browser has a file size upload limit. Tilesets are big files just by themselves, and the more colors you cram in a tile, the bigger the file will be, and you might find you cannot continue the tileset as it'll become too big to upload. Your general tileset image (a door, a window, a floor pattern, whatever) isn't limited to one tile. You can use any number of tiles to create the image. Just be sure that 1, they flow together well and 2, that they fill up all the tiles they take. Don't limit an image used in the tileset to one back wall pattern if possible. This allows it to be used more widely and gives LATs more freedom. Hope this helps. Would have written more, but I'm on my phone. |
