LAG and DELAY;confused terms
People really need to know the difference between the terms LAG and DELAY. LAG is a noticeable delay between the action of a player and the reaction of the server. It not only depends on the players internet connection but also on the calculating power of the server.its main cause is insufficent bandwith allocated to the game or in easy words not enough internet speed. Its 90% players fault and 10% ghe servers fault. DELAY is the response time between the action of a plyer and the reaction of the server mostly caused by the distance between the certain player and the Servers position. It is totally not the players fault. If you want to totally extinct delay, either allocate it to the countries where the servers are located or just upgrade the damn servers. Hope this helps to raise awarness between the following terms as I am really sick of being called a LAGGER/HACKER/CHEATER etc.... even when its not my fault. |

Lag is something that happens to people with slow connections, most of these idiots don't know when to stop downloading p0rn. delay is when idiots are trying multi tasking... Graal on one tab and p0rnhub on the other my explanation is so much better.. i bet i'll get more upvotes than this whole thread. Spoiler

this is graal, people are incapable of forming their own opinion. Everything they think they know is what they hear in the community. Before the pcrs showed up, everything was blamed on lag, and when they showed up everything became a delay issue. Before it was japan lag and now is "arab" lag. Before it was wall sparring and now its defensive sparring. I bet you if somebody like Comet makes up a word to describe bs connections it wouldnt be long before everyone in the community started using it. Does anyone remember the weed is cool phase? Or the my girl is prego phase? |

don't even bother the first thing you need to realize is that the people who are calling you a lagger or a delayer are complainers a complainer knows no limits and will defy all logic to insist that you have beaten them due to factors that are out of their control if you aren't a delayer, they'd have called you a waller; if you aren't a waller, they'd have called you a hacker; if you aren't a hacker, they'll really stretch and try to attack your personal life, etc. don't try to combat their ignorance with logic and reason otherwise you'll end up wasting your own generous time (as I have) - simply ignore them, they aren't worth your time |

I facepalmed at the title before even opening this...
Yes, there is a difference between horrible wifi connection and distance from the server, BUT the result is the same: Lag. As far as I know, theres no technical difference. "Lag" and "delay" are used pretty interchangeably on Graal. |

The bigger thing that needs to be discerned is the difference between lag and framerate ![]() It makes it very difficult to narrow down issues when players use "lag" as a term for both server latency and framerate drop. |

Australia is known for pretty poor internet speeds, but you don't need blazing-fast internet to ping well to Graal, so it really has nothing to do with it |

![]() As someone with crappy internet... ya you can play Graal pretty well. Why? Because ping is not dependent on your connection speed, but line quality. However, a bad connection can be because of bad service/quality, and thus you'll probably end up with a bad ping. For a very long time I had an 8ms ping and a .75kbps/1.5mbps connection. I gamed pretty well online quite a bit, but once my download and upload started getting maxed out it would bottleneck my connection and thus, my ping would get really bad. As long as your DL/UL aren't bottlenecking your connection it'd be fine. This is probably not something a normal gamer/user would really bother with knowing though. |

If people want to have a basic understanding of how things work, heres a good thread that in my opinion breaks it down graal (simpliest form) style Note: probably wont be useful to experienced players https://community.playhawken.com/top...ie+%2Bexplains |
