Probably gonna start a huge flame war if I reply, it's not like it would change anything, your parents believed in religion, youve been raised in religion, nothing I can say would change your view. All I can do is hope the schools science boards start openly teaching kids at a younger age all the science and such so there isn't the ignorance, I was talking about religion, and one girl said she didn't believe in evolution. She said she didn't believe we came from monkeys or a fish cell. That's not the theory of evolution at all, it's that apes and humans both evolved from a common ancestor, There's so much information out there about evolution, you can actually witness it. Antibiotic resistitant virus's, animal-human cross overs, (bird flu) (bubonic plague) There's even tests you can do at home to demonstrate the basic theory of the start of basic life, showing how electricity and a combination of the gases that made up earths atmosphere can produce amino acids and other basic building blocks of life. You can believe what you want, but I won't tolerate utter ignorance to science. |

![]() Idiotic? Sorry sir, but not believing in a religion is far from it. I agree with you about atheism being idiotic because there is no way for you to discount something being outside of the realm of science, but that's beyond the subject. I'm more of an agnostic, really. I think the true idiotic thing is to believe something, even though you have no idea if it is true or not, just to make yourself feel better. I could never be happy doing that. To me, that's just lying to myself. I dont see in any way why a religion will be true anyways, although thats just me. I see all religions (except Buddhism, that's more of a philosophy) on the same level as doctor seus books, and believing them to be real in my eyes, is the same as believing the cat in the hat will walk up to your door someday and hand deliver you green eggs and spam.

That is a personal problem, do not blame others for why you deconverted. There are extremist in anything. Lastly Pimpsy, I suggest just researching and getting info of religions. Don't count any out. Just read and sincerely look for answers. The rest is up to you.

I understand your point where things like Evolution and the Big Bang are, "leaps of faith" to believe in. But how are they dishonest? How does that mean i still dont call it faith? I would much rather believe in something that has an actual grounding in reality then something that is just as legitimate as a dr. Seuss book. Because, now this is not an opinion, this is a straight up fact, the Bible, Koran, and any other holy book have just as much of a reliability factor as a Dr. Seuss book. There is nothing separating them. Religions are like language. They are natural for people to believe when they have no idea how to explain the universe. How is science just as much as a leap of faith? Its not. You are looking at this in an incredibly simplified view. More simplified than you can ever know. You dont really even know who wrote the bible. Hell, i could write my own genesis and claim its true and it could be just as legitimate. These men, these scientists, they work night and day studying the world around them and coming up with the best possible answer to explain it. These are theories. And sure they will probably be proven wrong hundereds of years from now. Thats besides the point. They are the best answer for the universe as of right now. We can never find all the answers. But they are the best we have. Sure it takes a leap of faith to believe them, i understand that, but its much less of a leap of faith than believing some story a guy on the street told me. Putting science and religion in the same category is rather insulting in my opinion. -------- Tl;Dr: I would much rather believe the best answer we have to life and the universe than some illegitimate, inaccurate answer just to make me feel better about death or something. |

Interesting but just a couple questions ponder in my mind how did this go from "Hey higbey you jelly of my 666 posts?" to grammar and religion?
