Being on the patrol team made me really irritable and generally ruder to people after I got hired; mostly because I could see what they were really like at any time, and they wouldn't know. It seems so silly reflecting on it, I've since recently deleted the app, going to try to keep it deleted. |

Becoming admin is for people with time to loose. Honestly, the only people who wants to be admin that bad are new players. It doesn't give you more fun being admin than just a normal player. It gets annoying though, the billion spam pms, everyone know you and stalk you, the haters...oh wait that's the funny part. So many people ask you for dumb stuff. I mean I've never been admin, but the first month when I uploaded my first tiger custom was annoying: Spam, people asking for my stuff, people saying they'll steal my stuff, haters, having 99 notifications on graal everyday and everyone adding me for no valuable reason. I mean if annoying noobs spamming you and adding you and all that stuff is what you're looking for you don't need to become admin. |

(This is from pre-2013 experience, some information may be outdated) If you enjoy providing a service to the game and its players as a volunteer, then the satisfaction itself will be the reward. There are many things that can be learned from the process of being a staff member, such as how Graal programming works from using RC, or even learning artwork/level design (even if you are not hired as graphics or levels staff). You will make friends with other staff members along the way and usually they turn out to be nice people who will be helpful and support you when you need it. Unfortunately the advantages are rather limited to these, and there are no material gains. Staff do not receive "special privileges" for their player accounts. This means you cannot give yourself or friends free in-game items just because you are staff. The job is rather demanding and you will be required to log on and be active for a minimum set period per week. If you have college or work and suddenly cannot log in for a given period, you will be automatically removed from staff without notice (even if you gave management notice of your planned absence). While often you will be communicating with players with genuine queries, there will always be ones who will waste your time such as players who ask for free in-game items/privileges, stalkers (of varying degrees), and trolls who deliberately attack you and do things that get themselves banned, then ruin your reputation by complaining about you abusing your powers to ban them "for no good reason". I remember once there was a player who was constantly stealing other players' accounts while harassing others. He was eventually dealt with but then used his influence to single me out as a "power abuser" through his podcast and YouTube channel. Even worse, there will be impersonators who do illegal acts while assuming your identity. There was a case where someone adopted my identity and started fat-shaming another player, using extremely hurtful language. Other cases involved scammers using a similar avatar as me to intimidate other players for login/credit card information. Receiving and responding to angry messages from the victims/their friends accusing you of acts that someone else committed under your name is not fun at all. There are ways to smoothly deal with most of these situations but that is something you will have to learn on the job. If you can manage these, then it should not be much of a problem. |
