Sparring and Lag
I think the biggest issue that everyone can agree on when it comes to sparring is the different degrees of lag experienced by players. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if a player is actually good at sparring, or if their lag just gives them an unfair advantage. I believe a fairly simple fix to this would be to implement a lagcap for spars. Players are already restricted from sparring if they do not have enough hours or are not identified, so a lagcap should be a pretty simple addition. If staff have not implemented this because they fear it would restrict too many players, instead of implementing it to all spars they could get rid of the useless spar rooms (Mobile tourney and Facebook tourney) and turn them into lagcap rooms (one quick and one tourney?) where you can only join the queue if your ping is below a certain threshold (e.g. 250ms or lower). |

yeah the idev and facebook rooms are pretty much dead at the moment, something like this would be good to balance out the queues throughout the rooms so I don't have to wait 5-10 minutes to spar in the mixed room. lets also disable wins and losses in the side rooms while we're at it. people who spar in there either suck/selective spar, or they are new players who need practice before stepping foot into the rooms with actual competition. or, restrict players with over X amount of wins from entering the side rooms.

Oh, I was not aware this was suggested before. Did they say why it won't happen? I really can't imagine this requiring very much work and I don't see any downsides, so I'm curious what the reason would be.

I honestly don't see why the Facebook/iDevice rooms couldn't be replaced by rooms with lag caps, something that simply checks your ping when you queue for spar and after every spar won

A lag cap room would be great, but the server seems too unstable. I can't even check my ping for some reason on PC. (Can on phone) |

just change idev, pc room to a quick spar and a streak room. streaking queue takes a long time. if u are worried about people boosting. make those rooms open and close at certain time. like 3-11pm est and disable the queue bar after 11:01 pm. |

Let me tell you something about "selective sparring" everyone does it or has done it at some point. Get anyone with a 5:1 ratio or higher and have them spar at peak hours and see if they match their ratio. I remember players saying they would spar at 1am because it was the only time the player count was low enough to make it worth sparring. I'm sure that the fact the arena was filled with noobs at that time had nothing to do with that decision. |
