Just another 12 year old who thinks he understands the world after playing a CoD game. Well apparently an American was killed along with some other European citizens. So now we care. |

I can see people not going abroad on holidays now, as hotels and holiday parks have been targeted.

Addressing the original question of the thread... The reasons behind ISIS' actions are twofold: 1. A conflict in ideology Not everyone shares the same beliefs as ISIS, and they're not okay with that. They disapprove of western culture, and feel that everyone should follow their way of life. They can't accept that people are different and would rather take away lives and enforce their own beliefs onto others and have the world ruled under their one caliphate. Perhaps it originated from an early misinterpretation of scripture, but the extremist (note the use of the term "extremist" rather than "Islamic") nature of ISIS is a split branch that has independently deviated from mainstream religion and descended into a culture of hatred for everyone who isn't them. They feel that it is their duty to spread their beliefs to everyone in there world, whether they like it or not, and those who do not agree die. The original concept of "Jihad" is about struggles in life, whether it be a personal struggle to achieve something, or working hard together to achieve a goal. The modern use of "Jihad" by ISIS is a corrupted concept that bases itself on spreading terror and fear among those who aren't part of them. Similar to the Westboro Baptist Church, their beliefs stem from a broken interpretation of archaic ways, with the only difference being that ISIS has the means and motivation to exercise their ways through physical violence while the WBC is like a child who talks big but hides behind the First Amendment when things get ugly. 2. To generate hostility between Muslims and the rest of the world A secondary aim is to recruit more members. By committing acts of terror under the name of Islam, they want to make everyone fear Muslims and create a counter-hatred for them. They don't want Muslims to be part of general society, so they do what they can to disrupt the peace. By having them singled out and isolated, they can then try to act "sympathetic" towards them and make it look like they are the only hope. This is part of their "brainwashing" program. Going back to the corrupted idea of Jihad being a war, ISIS' actions rely on there being animosity between them and the world in order to justify their actions. Put bluntly, they want us to hate Muslims and if we fall for this, it makes it all the much easier for ISIS to convert and radicalise otherwise peaceful individuals. --- There are far more implications behind their actions, some which might not even make sense at all. This is just a brief summary though. |
