Obiously dogs. You can get rid of people by letting them fart. No honestly they are cool. With a cat you would always have to be scared that he/she might run away and never come back. Sure while taking a walk with your dog the same could happen but the chance is lesser.

Dogs because 90% of the time you can fix a bad dog. 90% of the time you CAN'T fix a bad cat. If you happen to get a cat with a ****ty personality, you're basically boned. No wonder there are so many strays, eh? I grew up with a beast of a cat for a pet, and we put up with that **** for 10 years. Never again.

That's why I love cats so much, they're individuals, not mindless conformists who can be pleased by anything

Do you like the individuals that tear up your furniture, bite you, and spray their urine all over your house? Cuz if so, I wish I'd met you back when my family was putting up with that beast we had.

If we, as a species, never learned to domesticate the dog then we may not even be alive today. Many millenia ago the population of homo-sapiens was wearing thin and when our agriculture began, Dogs were domesticated and used to assist with the agriculture. They could be used for herding, hunting and guarding. Because of Dogs humans were able to flourish at the time and survive as a species. Where were the cats? Ok, they hadn't evolved and been domesticated in their current form for another few thousand years yet but you couldn't get a cat to do any of that. |

Cats are solitary animals in nature, so they don't have a sense of hierarchy. This is why training them is so hard. The difference is that dogs think "master doesn't like when I do x, so I won't do x," and cats think "human acts annoying when I do x, so I won't do x in front of human." They rarely, if ever, do things to make human happy--not because they are bad or mean, it's just how they understand life. "Family" is not in their mental vocabulary, so to speak, because they are solitary animals on an instinctual level. You can easily train a cat to not go on the counter or not scratch furniture while you are around, but the moment you are gone, the incentive for them to stop doing those things is gone as well because they see life through solitary-minded eyes. Cats do not possess the empathy that dogs need to live in a pack. This is what I mean when I say 90% of bad cats cannot be fixed--your desires are literally beyond their understanding most of the time. Cats are clever and interesting in their own ways for sure, and they are great low maintenance pets because their solitary nature gives them a very low need for socialization. (As a side note, this is a big issue with dogs that some people sadly don't understand. Dogs NEED socialization, and when they don't get enough of it, they are likely to become mentally unhealthy.) Personally, I'm just way too much of a control freak to want to bend my life around my pet. When I get pet, pet listens to ME. >:I |
