And replace it with something less exciting but more functional? Mini games with Candy prizes? A Halloween dress up contest with candy prizes? I’m sure there must be a way to keep it a little more balanced |

Well it’s my thread And I wanna put a spot light on the system, the way it’s manipulated and if it can be changed to reflect a more balanced, less fanatic based system Something more fun and approachable to any and all Not just you, but everyone

Reason: Ofcourse change is scary, when you’ve got the system down

Actually this is related to a growing trend in game development, which is considering ethics in game design. Creating open ended systems where people who play for 20 hours a day (and neglect themselves) is considered ethically unsound. Systems that rewards this behavior and incentivize people who have addiction issues to fall into the trap in order to stimulate competition are kind of rife in online gaming. Especially mobile gaming (remember farmville?). There are simple design techniques that limit this (timers, daily limits, reduced availability/decreasing benefits over time). When you create these kind of systemic bottlenecks, however, it often becomes tempting to include pay-to-win features to create an alternative method of people getting a leg up.

I have no idea what Farmville is other than it sounds like some kind of farming simulator game, But if anything if people (Somehow) can manage to play 20 hours a day, It really only shows they don't really have other things to do. Most gamers and people who play games in general are usually kids in school or young adults with a lot of free time, If there really is nothing they need to get done or anything else they'd rather do, Why not just let them play a game for however long? I mean most people who get around my age and have a job or two break out of the need for gaming and realize the more important issues anyway. Not saying there isn't people addicted to farm simulators or whatever it was called or like graal, But compared to actual real addictions i dont think it should be concern. |

Farmville was a farming game on facebook. It reached its peak popularity around...2010-12 ish? Gaming addiction is also a very real concern. It can change peoples social lives and deprive them of sleep. Saying that they just dont have anything better to do is not a fair argument because they generally dont have jobs, friends, or anything else. and hell they can even get that tunnel syndrome from repetitive movements, and become adjitated. Gaming addiction, is just as serious as any other addiction. I think you really need to gain a better understanding on what an addiction actually is. |

Not saying gaming addiction isn't a real thing, But i don't think anyone has died of such a thing or probably ever will. Furthermore i'd rather see people addicted to playing a game than some kind of drugs or something because they got no other way to cope with stress. It isn't like people don't usually take their minds off and into more important issues when they become of age for a job and so on, Hell Thallen has been playing for like 20 something years and i doub't his gaming has caused life threatening issues |

Halloween Candy disparity
Okay, yeah, true, drugs and all that stuff is way worse. Id say gaming addiction is similar to gambling in some cases, and in others it can seriously ruin their social and working lives. True gaming addiction is rare, but there are people out there whose minds are just full of thoughts about videogames, and not a whole lot else. Oh, and most people with a gaming addiction are adults. Kids who play videogames all day, while not ideal isnt exactly abnormal behaviour. |
