The ability to take ableism lightly is a priveledge, apathy is a priveldge. To be able to act like nothin in the world matters but yourself is a priveldge exacted by hundreds of millions people everyday. If there were no oppression priveldge would be a lot simpler topic. |

My little sister is autistic but I'm pretty sure she is entitled the the same privileges as any other person. Like Kendeema said, it's s matter of prespective. I view her disability as a mere setback from the kind and lovely person she actually is. But when I think of if she never had that disability, is think he range of personalities would be less. Everything that happens around us influences us in some way, whether that is good or bad is also a matter of perspective. On another note, I noticed people who are over-privileged or under-privileged have different views on life. I have a friend who's dad works as a construction worker but he's got the most funny and optimistic personality. I've got another friend who's mom and dad both work for big company and have an overall larger income. They're a bit stingy and micromanaging but in the end they're still good folks. |

Do you even think about race priveldge? Sex priveldge that when I walk down the street I get gawked and yelled at because of my body, my male friend doesn't my male friend doesn't get sexually harassed as much as I do. Its a priveldge to not even have to think about a mysogny and racist culture. It just shows who Yall are where your grew up, under a blanket of priveledge. Does racism even cross your mind on a daily basis?for a lot black people they are confronted with the fact that they are black all the time. But a white person no one ever questions why or what a white person is doing. I bet your sister doesn't get treated seriously. Your sister deserves respect but I'm sure she doesn't always get it why? Because people don't have to care bout an autistic person but a healthy young white man? A healthy young white man will get it most all the time and that's priveldge. |

I admit, there are a lot of seriously ignorant people out there that refuse to see it this way but the fact of the matter is, in the end we're all humans. Nothing about us is taken for granted which is why these dumb conversations even happen. Oh and for the record, I think people can take my little sister with a severe mental disability much more seriously than some random white guy. |

thats what Im saying as long as people are oppressed the priveldge is going to unequal. Not just economicly. But also cause people are oppressed racially, sexually, and many others. Essentially we are all born free equal lil human beings, we are also born into a racist and mysognistic culture so that goes into how people judge each other. Creating power dynamic creating steriotypes. All of that factors into priveldge not to mention america stealing resources from all around the globe, economical priveldge. But sometimes you can't go earn themselves. its all relative, and that relativity shows the diversity. We don't live in a world where people Are treated, loved, hated equally |

I think there is a distinction that needs to be made between the two usages of privilege in this thread. For the first type, privilege can be used to describe something that is endowed to a person as something necessary to allow them to thrive but can also be nullified should that person abuse it. For example, I am given a privilege as a human being to go out on the streets and roam where I please. Should I abuse this privilege, however, and go out and murder someone, my privilege is revoked and I am forced to reside in jail. On the other hand, privilege can be used much more abstractly. It can be used to describe something that, although it may be still endowed by society, is issued as part of a cultural phenomenon and therefore cannot be revoked. I am a white male in society, and as such I have certain privileges due to the society I have found myself in that cannot be taken away. The government can try to alleviate the injustice of my privilege, but they cannot take it away completely. Therein lies the distinction between the two. 5hift mentions that privilege is given based on a family's history of effort, and while this is probably debatable in itself, it still only pertains to the first definition. Things like sex, race, etc. are truly 'assigned' in the since that nobody had to work for you to look the particular way that you do. Society's interpretation of you (in which lies the privilege) is independent of any effort that may have been put in not only by your parents but you as well. |

In a way- survival of the fittest. I do not discriminate, but I do keep my distances from large groups of people that are not multicultural / my race. I feel less safe when interacting with them because I would be looked at as an outsider in many instances. This thought process will never change. It will survive with humanity till its end. |

A documentary on second life, how people have made a living from it but devoted their lives also and how it affects them, pretty interesting (and features a catfish!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUwD7u7wwcY |
