Any idea as to whether or not getting a pre-owned system would effect anything? Would I be using someone else's network ID or do they change? I have no idea besides little tidbits from yahoo answers.

I would not trust a pre-owned system. Some people have no problems with one and others do. It's kind of a chance game. I have a couple used normal DSs that I purchased used because they were cheap and both had an issue. One had an orange dot on the screen I would OCD on playing the game and another had a really squeaky trigger. To some people these are small things, but they can be very distracting to me.
