What would also be interesting is to have a x marked wherever a hit happened(I realize this would require a person to do it, but it wouldn't be all that time consuming.)

I could technically also track this to put an X when the hit happens but it would bug out quite a bit because of lag. Probably would be easier to do it manually but for certain matches I would like to try to incorporate.
Another thing I'm incorporating is total swings for each opponent also having a marker where they currently are and another marker where they got hit (to show the delay effect).
If we want to be really clever, we could also programmatically compare these heatmaps against successful players' heatmaps in order to give helpful tips on how to improve.

It would be cool if they had it in game vs someone doing it in video in post. But ya the point of the heat maps is ultimately for players to see how successful sparrers are consistent and also to help people improve.
I don't understand. How does a heat map in any way help you? All it does is show where you went, and depending on the opponent, it's going to change every time sooo...?

It shows a lot. Shows tendencies, which side specific players are dominant, shows aggressive sparrers vs cookie cutter style sparrers, shows people who wall/c style. You could technically do heat maps for a player over a specific amount of time to show where they are most comfortable... quite honestly with more data the more interesting it will definitely get. And if I do this for some GST matches it would show how teams work together and even technique.
Also it will help people who want to get better show where they need to concentrate more to improve and be more consistent.
The more data/examples the more interesting it will be.
