Final fantasy 6 and 7, hands down had the most well written stories in video game history, and absolutely unforgettable characters. Probably the only two games I could play every year. Hopefully square enix is releasing final fantasy vi on the idevices soon.

dis. i tried playing ff4, ff6, ff7, and ff10 but didn't beat any of them. 6 is prob my fav of the bunch, and 7 was alright (i played the pc version and my sound glitched at key points in the game so i said **** it) but i just don't enjoy any of them. i try to give them a fair chance every now and then, but random-encounters is ****ing sloppy and makes for a horrible game. the storylines might be good but i play these games because they're games, and if my game flow is constantly broken by random-encounters then i have a hard time enjoying it. people talk about characters and ff6, but for a game that's praised as being godlike it's quite **** in terms of character development and personalities. if you play it again, you'll find that the vast majority of their dialogue will be generic responses regardless of who you have in your party. this takes away from their personalities and makes most of their screen-time forgettable. ff7 had the edge here where i actually got some feedback from the characters based on their dialogue. |

It seems almost like a chiché saying it, but FF7 was just such a solid game. The gameplay itself may have been so-so, but the world built around it, the characters, and the lore were revolutionary at that time. Most games following it have just been lacking in quality though (I have to admit though, I did like XII). But 7 created such a cult following, spawning spin-off's like Crisis Core (which I loved) and Advent Children (good movie). So for that reason alone, it deserves all the praise it gets. /rant.
