If you have the money that you earned, buy one anyway? That's what I did.  

Parents could take away the computer though.. Sort of the 'right' of living in their house, if they are brave enough.

Good thing I have a fingerprint lock on my laptop so my FBI computer specialist dad doesn't crack my password.

So you spent $700 on a computer... By buying $100 RAM and $500 on a graphics card...
100+500=600.....

Oh wait! he'd just shove your HDD into another system and read your **** off it as a secondary HDD.

In the rare case encryption is enabled, your dad probably has an admin account on your laptop (even if you don't know it) and could quite happily do whatever he pleases.
