the term darkstep is misleading. darkstep was an old drum and bass genre and has nothing to do with dubstep. the guy's channel started with that genre, but he then started posting "darker" dubstep tunes and that got popular.  this is darkstep: pretty damn dark if you ask me the problem i have with these tunes is that they all sound like the one that i think made it popular (go to 2:00): don't mind hearing that style live tho, it's pretty fun. the other house song you posted is lovely, i like that deadmau5 trance-isque style of house. :3 |

"EDM" has always been around, it's just post-dubstep that it's really skyrocketed to popular music status. before dubstep hit and influenced house, house music and "dance" were always played in clubs. house won't go away, so no worries about that. |
