The main reason I'm so upset about this is because when Rita (4th most powerful atlantic hurricane ever) was headed directly for Houston (where I live) it was considerably threatening. They tried to convey that it was a horrible, horrible storm by saying it would be a "Category 6" hurricane if there was one. Since this was the first legitimate hurricane to hit Houston and Galveston in decades, everyone bought the scares and evacuated. It caused chaos. There was so much gridlock on the highway that I can't even describe it. It was like independence day (The movie). Guess what? It missed, died off, and hit Louisiana. That's besides the point though. Even if it did hit at full force, the media should not have influenced that mass reaction by saying stupid things. Scare factors like that do not help anything.

You know what really sucks? The area effected by the storm usually doesn't get any massive storm systems like this. They weren't ready for anything like this. Floridians are used to storms. It sucks and you cope with whatever future that comes.

Also, I have been hearing more and more about people in towns near me who have been killed by falling trees, branches, and even sometimes power lines. I really don't want to hear anyone talking about "how the storm wasn't serious" or some stupid statement like that. It ended lives, and that fact cannot be overlooked. Jokes aren't really funny.. (Aimed at nobody in general, it just had to be said. It bothered me..) |
