When virtual reality games are available, everyone is given a headpiece for it and we all become trapped in a VRMMORPG, only way out is dying in game therefore killing yourself irl. Humans dont move forward, the world ends. Its not worthy of a TL;DR, but basically, sword art online comes to life.

Someone farts in the ocean causing a rupture in the global marine ecosystem. The pressures beneath the earth begin to rise as the gas slowly makes its way towards the ocean floor. Unraveling the monsters man has kept locked away deep in his imagination. Nightmares and plagues will arise when the clock crows its final hour. A foul, unholy stench will thicken the air. Obstructing the cerebral activity at its heart. The worst of all is that you shall not perish. Not immediately. Krakens, and giants will unleash their hidden fury kept bottled for millennia. Your heart will begin to corrode as the stench fills your lungs. You will be left gasping for air. You will not find it though. Leaders will hold their flags cleansed in bleach. As they will surrender to the most tyrannical foreign presence of all. Then somewhere far far away; locked in a lone bunker, a man reaches for the detonator. And puts an end to all his suffering.

I think it'd be pretty cool if earth got hit but a gamma ray burst. Impossible to detect (until it arrives), and it would literally fry the planet in seconds. Although it would be incredibly unlikely since a large super nova or hypernova would have to occur pointing directly at us. |
