Ok I'm going to try and go as in-depth as I can here. This is my personal opinion on how Factions should be added to Zone.
FACTIONS
A unique team/system in place aside from Squads. They allow more in-depth gameplay and are excluded from Basing. You would join one Faction and be loyal to them. If you don't participate in Faction activities for amount of days, you would be removed from the Faction and lose your spot (will explain more later on).
WHAT WOULD FACTIONS HAVE?
All Factions would have different themes and fighting styles. Each Faction would have 1 Home Planet that is unique to them and benefits themselves. This would include type of environment, baddies, weapons, and layout. Aside from a Home Planet, each Faction would have different leveling classes, and when leveling up they are able to gain new equipment/items that only they can use.
FACTION GAMEPLAY?
Factions would have their own solar system. In the Faction Solar System there would be Home Planets for every Faction (THIS IS WHERE FACTIONS WOULD ATTACK AND DEFEND THEIR PLANET) and 1 "peace treaty" planet where you can discuss with other Factions and talk about attack techniques (Maybe to team up and take over a Faction?!). Each Faction has a certain amount of players. These players are expected to take part in Faction Activities. A system would be in place that logs which players seem to be "clogging" up space in a Faction and remove them. They would not lose their progress with that Faction, but would if they joined a different Faction.
EXAMPLE OF BATTLE
Extraterrestrial Faction attacks Star Faction.
Extraterrestrial Faction has 10 Players attacking the Star Faction. Star Faction has 10 Players defending their Planet.
BATTLE BEGINS! 5 minute timer.
The Star Faction is warped to their Main Room (let's say a control panel room that is controlling their planet). Extraterrestrial Faction is warped onto the planet's outside.
The Extraterrestrial Faction must now maneuver through Star Faction's planet and destroy their Control Panel before time runs out. If the 5 minute timer runs out and the mission is failed. Star Faction receives a gralat prize reward and experience that goes towards leveling up in the Faction for defending. If the Extraterrestrial Faction breaks and destroys the Control Panel before the 5 minute timer runs out then the Extraterrestrial Faction would receive a gralat prize reward and experience that goes towards leveling up in the Faction for successfully attacking.
This is my general idea for Factions which seems both fun and time investing to me.

-"Corrasant" ("Peace treaty" Described in kenovos post. It is the city/Capitol planet)
It could be all new, or a modification to Sky World (would be perrrrfect!!) Graalians are the main inhabitors, factions recruit (and have a cool hangout :0?!) here, but control various parts of the galaxy.) Sqauds battle to control the far corners of this planet (so it'll be the same basically, with recruitment centers & factions meeting peacefully to talk)
-"Endor" (Faction Planet; mostly melee, bow (there are some, right?) and fist fighting oriented. It is the tree/woodsy planet)
It could be all new, or a modification to Chronos (making the woods thicker (and pine trees please!!!!,) add primitive dwellings, and natives (bearish looking, primative weapons) wooden weapons sold here :0 There'll be an imperial type building tucked in the woods (see sw 6) for you to attack the controlling faction (this is their control center).
-"Tatooine" ("Factionless Planet" Squads fight to own this planet, through controls parts of it. People who choose to fly solo, and control their own squad, filled with other freebirds. Best for those who want to use every weapon, and don't care for gear; It is the sand planet)
This would be perfect to add bounty hunting (given a picture of the person needed killed, and they are told 'which planet they were last seen on'. They would then go to that planet and search for the person depicted in the picture. This would be a cool place to add metal detecting for items under the sand) this planet is a melting pot of all different species, and should depicted as a 'used future'. Robot bomys sold here!! Would keep squads alive, and co-exist!
-"Mustafar" (Faction Planet; boom boom weapons. They use grenades, grenade launchers, and other big cannon-like, "get the job done" guns. It is the lava planet)
This would be simple, add buildings to lava planet, indoors, and maybe a more humanoid native species? And obviously the control center to attack the controlling faction.
-Death Star (Faction-Sqaud planet; 'man-made' planet) although you may think other wise, this is no moon. It is an entirely indoor, man-made planet. Some factions seek to take control of unique planet (which would open up a whole lot of opportunties! You could make money in the weapons factory, repairing robot bomys, etc. Plently of role playing opportunties here; detention block (jail), mess hall, training course for "space troopers", etc. You could sell "space troopers" suits, unique weapons, unique bomys, etc. Every thing is dark here, and there is a lot of light elements on things. I'm sure others will have much better ideas for this place. Both Factions and Squads can participate on this masterpiece! Each can control a floor of it.
-Hoth (Faction Planet, they use mostly laser guns, since they function better than classic guns in extreme cold; ice planet) edited Iciria, with mounted turrets through out, insides, more structures, two legged horses (classic-esque horse? :0) And control center. (Igloos? 8) )
-Naboo (Faction Planet, mostly classic guns & nature weapons; water/ classic planet) this would be mostly underwater, so you'll need to buy/ "obtain" a breather. Fish-like inhabitants (zorbis and zorbas :0?) with domes you can enter. And the little parts that are above ground closely resemble bits and pieces of some place called 'Classic' but most of it is destroyed, by what appears to be giant graalians (based on the giant footprints) and big hammer impressions :0 you can go fishing off of the land here, into the water. Be careful not to snag a local!
That's all that I could think of off of the top of my head! And factions will get different weapons for what is currently available as well. All, if not most, planets have a few shops (some with unique items, maybe you could get an hourly amount of gralats for each planet your faction controls (income from the shops)), at least one job, and a place where factions can duke it out for planetary control! (And squads fight over which parts of the planet they want?) Obviously the planets are going to be fairly small, and (hopefully) each will all have their own purpose besides just factions! I hope the above will be a good balance for squads and factions!
