A VPN makes someone lag by running them through another location instead of their own. So to the game, it would look like you're playing from, say, Singapore, rather than where you are, if you select that place to VPN from. Since the game thinks you're connecting from Singapore, the flag will change accordingly.

So it just reveals which country you're running it through? Doesn't seem to solve the actual issue, though. Can't a server actually block VPN?  

But still though people can just use VPN and set it to their own countries. Even though the lag increase might not be much people can still do it. Hopefully staff can implement something to prevent this but I don't know if it's possible.

That answer I don't know. As for the moment, all people can tell is that someone is doing it. As was stated earlier, this wasn't the point of this update, but it does let people know. Fp4 stated somewhere else that this will be expanded on in the future, but nobody knows how.

People can just ddos themselves and have the same results as vpn cheating. Just to clear this up to whoever cares @sparrers

It's intentionally lagging yourself to give the average person a harder time against you that a lot of people hate.

But lag is determined by your device speed, your connection-wifi/3g/4g etc not just area you are.. so you can't really base players latency off where they are from i.e my ipod2gen works at like 300+latency while my iphone 6 works at like 100 or something roughly, so this serves no purpose, unless its actually for the old idea of seeing actually how many are playing from uk/asia etc (if the last info was just based on the player picked flag idk.)

Having a US flag doesn't mean someone knows your location, there are 120+ million households in the US, your privacy is in tact.
