More incentive for casual PKers

I was originally going to post this in a reply to another thread, but it sort of went off-topic and think it deserves its own thread.

Personally, I don't find towering appealing at all really. Never did. Originally it was about bragging rights and having your guild's logo on the map screen, now it's about chasing hats. I do like hats, but not enough to put in the amount of time needed with a hardcore guild, only to have a chance at getting a hat (since it's all up to the leader). But all this has been discussed and argued about plenty of times. So that's not what this thread is about.

My issue is with Classic's PK system itself. Firstly, it favours hardcore players. Well duh, that's to be expected. But it would be nice if casual PKers had some incentive to get involved in towering/sparring/general PK as well. Being able to purchase a prize in the GST waiting room, regardless of whether or not your team makes it past the first round, is an example of something I really like. You can put together a team and enter a GST, and still get a fun little item regardless of how far you make it in the tourny.

I would like to see more rewards for casual PKers. One idea I thought of would be special areas that can only be accessed when you have a certain number of player kills. Say, one at 2k, 5k, 10k, etc. Maybe just little rooms that sell a few unique hats or other little items. You may recall the old room in the tower in deadwood that required 40k player kills. It contained that awesome horse mount (along with a couple other things, I believe). I know this was meant to be a reward for people who were able to achieve something that (at the time) was a great feat. And I'm certainly not implying that someone with 10k player kills should get an item of that caliber. But it would be nice, to have more incentive to PK.

My other problem is the fact that the entirety of Classic's PK system is mostly just swinging your sword. I know, adding more weapons, hearts, and whatnot would be an enormous undertaking and would be very difficult to implement, given that Classic has had the same general PK mechanics since inception, and it also has the "everyone's on equal ground" thing going for it, which many people like. But I can't help but want more. I like the AP system (well, for the most part. I don't care for the no healing under 40 AP part), I like that players now drop bombs & arrows upon death, giving some kind of penalty to death. Personally I would like it if players dropped gralats upon death (just a few). But now I'm starting to get off-topic, and this thread's long enough.

Anyway, thoughts/comments/suggestions?

This is an idea within an idea; Thallen has already mentioned the reward hats and their benfits and motivational aspects. This will soon be implemented by rewarding (I hope,) players with 50k or more kills in PK and BK.

I do agree that the Gnomes stun hammer should be brought back, and a quest to gain extra hearts that were accessible to everyone but were not able to be used in towers and GS.

Overall, you have just lumped together loads of small ideas on a single thread.

Well those player kill number requirements were just examples. They could be much higher. But again, I'm not necessarily talking about people who spend all their time PKing.

I know I didn't exactly lay my ideas out in a clear and concise manner, but I'm aiming more toward generating discussion on the subject, so others can chime in with their ideas and we can get a dialect going.

Like I said, Thallen has already done this argument to reimplement reward hats, if you want a reward hat, spend a month PKing and you'll do 30k easy. Then carry on to 100k...

I think rufus mentioned that they will not allow gralats being dropped upon death just before he left.

Yeah I don't see it happening either, to be honest. But perhaps a specific PK area where players drop gralats on death? Obviously there would need to be a reason for people to want to PK in this area. But I'm sure something could be figured out.

theyre not going to make gralats drop-able since some players buy them with real money.

and

rufus hasnt completely left classic, hes still working for them. he called the goat hat a weird guy. And he named shadowfox's stolen fox hat, so hes still helping them out.
