So I read something that Pears wrote and it opened my imagination into something else...
Starting off, I would like to just say that I've always been a fan of Classic CTF. When it dropped, I was there the entire week. That being said, a lot of this idea comes from that.
Imagine a [relatively small] map split into two. At each end there are spawn points for opposing teams. A little bit further ahead of each spawn, there is a power station for the respective teams. The goal of this minigamemabobything is to attack the other station and drop it down to 0. The map would be pretty confined, but that does not mean there would not be obstacles. However, I would not like to see as many as the trees and such in CTF.
The reason for the stations being a tad bit ahead of the spawn points is to keep the game balanced and not really OP for the defensive side. I personally would see this being in like a PK Arena styled map as they are much more clean, and could leave a lot of space for strategy without being overly spacious. The biggest gripe about CTF, which is pretty similar to this, is that there's almost no teamwork involved in it. One person goes ahead, gets the flag, returns, and then the cycle just continues. Not only that, the map is way too large and it's not very easy to navigate, nor is it really pretty. Along with the expanded map, it's also very hard to actually find players. Lastly, nobody ever plays it, particularly due to the reasons I just stated.
I think that this idea would take all the poor aspects of CTF and simply make them vanish. Now, it would be much easier to actually formulate a plan with your team, and there would be real interaction between the two sides.
In my mind I would love to see this be an actual mini-game in spar, or like a showdown type of deal, or even a base like Spring and Iricia which is a defensive/offensive game mode. I think it would also be of benefit to have impacts on the players be lessened just for the sake of the game not taking 7 years, and the stations to be set at 1K for the sake of the game not taking 1 minute.
I envision this with the same feel of rush and emotion as the original four skybases. It's a risk to attack, but it's also more beneficial than simply staying put. Both melee users and rangemen could have fun, and the problem which many people dislike about Skybase for, boosters, would be less of an issue. In fact, I would actually not mind not having Skybases if this was implemented. Given enough players playing it, it could be very thrilling to do this.
Now I simply thought of this little concept, but I don't really know how it could be implemented well. A spar mode? I don't think anyone would join it if there's no incentive. Maybe like Showdown which resets after every game for a small prize? Maybe, that's essentially how CTF is on Classic. As a base? Personally I think this is what would get the most people playing it, and I think it would actually be fun. The only issue with this is that I would love to see this be less of a squad-only thing and more of what CTF is on Classic where you get paired up with random people. I think it'd be a great way to have the community more connected through this as most PKers/Basers tend to hide into their own divisions.
Update: I also think it would be cool to have like a special middle section that drops fancy perks. Turn off the map for the other team for 1 minute, make them blind, make them slower, etc etc. I think it would just add another layer of fun to the game while also making it a bit more complicated than just a back and forth squabble like Spring.
Heres a little concept map I drew over Black Ops II Cargo lmao.
Just to prove the point that Graalians is still superior than the in-game forums, this suggestion above is about 3700 characters, roughly around 15 posts. It also contains the ability to more wisely organize paragraphs, and include reference photos for ideas. I highly recommend any serious suggestions being put on here... JS.
